The Hearing
Wednesday with Jesus
Dear Bretheren in Christ,
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life.” — John 5:24
We live surrounded by voices—news, opinions, social media, fears, and the expectations of others. But hearing many voices does not mean hearing what truly matters.
When Jesus says, “Whoever hears My word,” He means more than listening with our ears. He speaks of a heart that receives His Word, believes it, and allows it to change the direction of life.
Many heard Jesus during His earthly ministry, but not everyone was transformed. Some heard His words but continued living as before.
Jesus said, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me” (John 10:27).
Real hearing produces following.
When God's Word tells us to forgive, deeper hearing forgives.
When it calls us to love, deeper hearing loves.
When it exposes our sin, deeper hearing repents.
When it calls us to surrender, deeper hearing says, “Yes, Lord.”
So the question is not, “How much of God's Word have I heard?” but “How much of God's Word has changed me?”
Today, before reading Scripture, become quiet before God and pray:
“Lord Jesus, speak to me. Let Your Word go deeper than my ears. Touch my heart, correct my ways, renew my mind, and direct my steps.”
Prayerful regards,
